Current Status

Girin Card is an announced XRPL-focused Visa card for spending XRP and RLUSD, but it is not yet a generally available card. Girin opened pre-registration in its wallet on March 26, 2026. The current iOS release history still tells users to join the waitlist for the official launch, and Girin has not published current cardholder terms or a general ordering announcement.

Decision fact Current position
Application status Waitlist / pre-registration
Card network Visa
Formats announced Virtual and physical
Spend assets announced XRP and RLUSD
Annual fee $0 advertised
Rewards Up to 5% advertised; full rules not public
Apple Pay / Google Pay Included in announced programme
Samsung Pay Announced for after launch, not confirmed live
Applicant countries No current card-specific list published

This status matters because some precise prices and reward rules circulated during the pre-launch period. They are useful indications of the intended product, but they should not be treated as final until Girin exposes the applicable terms in the ordering flow.

How Girin Card Is Designed to Work

Girin describes the card as a bridge between a self-custody XRP Ledger wallet and Visa payments. The user adds funds and selects XRP or RLUSD for spending; Girin says conversion to fiat happens when the purchase is made, so the merchant receives an ordinary Visa payment without the user manually selling the asset first.

The announced flow is:

  1. Hold XRP or RLUSD in Girin Wallet.
  2. Add funds for card spending in the wallet.
  3. Pay with the virtual card, mobile wallet or future physical card.
  4. The selected asset is converted to fiat at transaction time.

Girin's public explanation does not yet show the complete authorization and settlement flow. In particular, it does not explain whether an authorization reserve is moved or locked before final settlement, which entity controls that reserve, or how reversals and disputes affect access to funds.

Rewards

Girin's public launch announcement advertises rewards on card purchases and a maximum rate of 5%, but says that more details will follow. It does not currently publish the ongoing rate, reward cap, eligible merchant categories, payout schedule or exclusions.

An early pre-launch schedule listed these format-specific rewards:

Reward feature Virtual Card Physical Card
Introductory cashback 2% for 30 days 5% for 30 days
Introductory spend cap $1,000 $1,000
Previously stated ongoing rate 1% 1%
Previously stated ongoing spend cap $2,000 $3,000
Reward asset XRP XRP

These format-specific figures are best treated as a preview, not a guaranteed live reward schedule. The reliable current headline is simply up to 5%, subject to the final programme terms.

No token stake or paid membership has been announced as a reward gate. The XRP that an XRPL account must keep in reserve is a network-level wallet requirement, not a Girin Card staking requirement.

Fees and Limits

Girin publicly confirms a $0 annual fee, no monthly maintenance fee and real-time conversion. It has not published a complete current fee sheet. The following exact figures were recorded during the pre-launch period and remain useful for comparison, but they need confirmation in the final card terms.

Fee or limit Virtual Card Physical Card
Annual fee $0 $0
Monthly maintenance $0 $0
Card issuance $5.89 $58.90
Crypto conversion 0%–0.75% 0%–0.75%
Foreign exchange (FX) Earlier materials conflicted between 0.75% and 1.8% Earlier materials conflicted between 0.75% and 1.8%
ATM withdrawal Not available 2% recorded
ATM limit Not applicable $500/day; $3,000/month recorded
Card purchase limit $500,000/transaction; $1,000,000/month recorded Same recorded limits

The two FX figures should not be averaged into a made-up midpoint. Until Girin publishes the final schedule, anyone invited from the waitlist should inspect the checkout and in-app fee disclosure before paying the issuance charge or making a non-USD purchase.

XRPL itself currently requires a 1 XRP base reserve for an account. Owner reserves depend on the objects held, and the first two trust lines can be exempt in a minimally funded account. These protocol reserves are not card fees and should not be added to the card's issuance price.

Girin also announced future Samsung Pay support in June 2026. Because the announcement describes it as a post-launch feature, it should not yet be represented as live mobile-wallet support.

Custody and Security

Girin Wallet is a self-custody wallet: users can create or import a seed phrase, and Girin says it does not hold the wallet's private keys. The card announcement goes further and says XRP or RLUSD stays in the wallet until the moment of a transaction, subject to applicable programme structures.

That is more user-controlled than keeping an always-prefunded balance at a centralized exchange, but it does not make the full card relationship trustless. A Visa card still depends on programme controls, transaction authorization, a licensed financial partner, fraud handling and dispute rules. Girin's public materials do not yet answer several important questions:

  • which licensed entity issues the card in each jurisdiction;
  • how funds are reserved between authorization and settlement;
  • who can freeze card spending and under what conditions;
  • how failed, reversed or disputed payments release funds;
  • whether any card balance is safeguarded or insured.

For that reason, the design is best understood as hybrid custody until the cardholder terms explain the remaining controls.

Girin advertises Visa's zero-liability protection for unauthorized transactions. That is useful card-network protection, but it is not insurance for XRP or RLUSD held in a wallet and does not replace the issuer's final dispute terms.

Country Availability and Waitlist Status

Girin advertises card use at more than 130 million Visa merchants in 150+ countries. That describes where an issued Visa may be accepted; it does not show who can apply.

The waitlist is available in Girin Wallet, but Girin has not published a current applicant-country list. Its launch disclaimer says services may vary by jurisdiction and may be provided through different licensed partners. Individual-country eligibility therefore remains unconfirmed until the application list is published.

User Feedback

There is not yet enough post-launch Girin Card feedback to judge card delivery, merchant acceptance, cash withdrawals, chargebacks or support during payment disputes. Existing public feedback concerns the wallet application.

Google Play showed a 3.2/5 rating from roughly 357 reviews and more than 100,000 downloads when checked. Visible critical reviews describe failed-to-load errors, password problems and temporary loss of access after updates. An Apple App Store reviewer reported repeated lockouts after app updates. Girin's recent iOS version 2.2.2 specifically lists stability and minor bug fixes.

Positive feedback exists too: isolated XRP-community comments describe Girin Wallet as easy to set up and use. Those anecdotes support the wallet's approachable onboarding, but they do not prove the reliability of the still-unlaunched card.

The practical takeaway is to back up the recovery phrase, test the wallet with a modest amount and keep another payment method when the card becomes available.

Product History

Date Development
2024–2025 Girin Wallet launched and added seed-phrase import, XRP/RLUSD tools and a Mercuryo on-ramp
March 26, 2026 Girin Card announced; waitlist opened in the wallet
June 26, 2026 Samsung Pay support announced for after launch
August 2026 Homepage markets the card, but current app history still describes pre-registration and no public cardholder terms were found

The Doppler Finance yield integration belongs to the wider Girin Wallet ecosystem. It should not be presented as a physical-card-only perk or as part of the card's cashback return.

Top-Up Methods

  • Announced spend assets: XRP and RLUSD in Girin Wallet
  • Process: Add funds in the wallet and select an asset for card spending
  • Conversion: Girin says crypto converts to fiat at transaction time; no manual fiat conversion is required
  • Unpublished: Authorization reserve, conversion-rate source and final funding terms

Self-Custody Hybrid Custody

  • Wallet: Users can create or import a seed phrase and control XRP/RLUSD in Girin Wallet
  • Card flow: Girin says assets remain in the self-custody wallet until transaction time, subject to applicable programme structures
  • Card controls: The public materials do not explain authorization holds, settlement reserves, freeze powers, reversals or withdrawal rights
  • Dependency: Visa payments and disputes still depend on Girin and its licensed financial partner

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • XRPL-native design for XRP and RLUSD holders
  • Assets described as staying in self-custody until transaction time
  • $0 annual and monthly maintenance fee advertised
  • Virtual and physical formats planned
  • Apple Pay and Google Pay announced
  • Rewards advertised at up to 5%

Cons

  • Still a waitlist product rather than a generally available card
  • Final applicant countries and issuer terms are not public
  • Complete fee and cashback schedules remain unpublished
  • Wallet users report access and stability problems
  • Only XRP and RLUSD are confirmed for card spending
  • Hybrid card controls remain insufficiently documented

Verdict

Girin Card is an interesting proposition for people who already use XRP or RLUSD and want a card that minimizes the time assets spend outside a self-custody wallet. Its strongest announced advantages are the XRPL-native payment flow, no recurring card fee, both card formats and rewards of up to 5%.

It is not yet ready to judge as an everyday card. The product remains on a waitlist, its full fee and reward rules are not public, and the applicant-country and issuer boundaries are still unclear. Joining the waitlist may make sense for committed XRPL users, but paying an issuance fee or relying on the card should wait until Girin exposes the final cardholder terms and live in-app prices.
