Frequently Asked Questions - Top Rated Crypto Cards
1 How are crypto cards ranked?
Our ranking system evaluates cards across five key metrics: Net Rewards (considering fees and cashback),
Availability (global accessibility and staking requirements), Custody & Risk (security and regulatory factors),
Features & Convenience (card benefits and usability), and User Experience (app quality and support).
2 How is Net Reward calculated?
Net Reward represents your actual monthly earnings after all fees are deducted from your cashback. We assume a typical spending profile of $1,500/month with 20% foreign currency transactions.
Fees included in the calculation:
- Monthly fees - charged every month
- Annual fees - prorated to monthly (÷12)
- Card issuance fee - one-time fee amortized over 3 years (÷36)
- Top-up fees - flat fee + percentage on card loading
- FX fees - percentage on foreign currency spending
- Crypto-to-fiat conversion - spread on converting crypto to spend (higher on weekends)
Hover over the Net Reward stars on any card to see the detailed fee breakdown.
3 Why do rankings prefer no-stake tiers?
We prioritize accessibility by favoring cards with lower or no staking requirements. While premium tiers often offer better rewards,
our rankings highlight options that are available to more users without requiring significant upfront investments.
4 How often are rankings updated?
Rankings are recalculated regularly as we update card data, fees, and features. We monitor changes in the crypto card landscape
to ensure our rankings reflect current market conditions and card offerings.
5 What makes a crypto card highly rated?
Top-rated cards typically offer strong net rewards after accounting for fees, broad global availability,
robust security features, comprehensive benefits (like airport lounge access or travel insurance), and excellent user experience through intuitive apps and responsive customer support.
6 How is the User Experience (User XP) rating calculated?
We aggregate public ratings from the Apple App Store, Google Play, and Trustpilot. Only sources with at least 20 reviews are counted toward the score; others are shown for transparency but not included. When multiple sources qualify, we compute a weighted average based on each source’s review count. If a provider has no app and no Trustpilot rating, the User XP metric is excluded from the overall score (it appears muted), so the overall rating reflects the remaining categories only.
