Wirex One Card is a Visa or Mastercard debit card that spends from an exportable self-custodial wallet and combines crypto with USD, EUR, and GBP accounts. Its five membership levels determine card format, cashback, and perks, while rollout and issuer vary by region.

  • Type: Virtual, plastic, or metal debit card linked to a self-custodial wallet
  • Key Feature: Card spending without transferring crypto into a Wirex-controlled balance
  • Availability: Phased rollout across the EEA, United Kingdom, and Australia
  • Standout Benefit: 0.5% to 8% USD-valued rewards with no membership subscription
  • Biggest Downside: Rewards use monthly redemption caps, and early users report migration and support problems

How Wirex One Works

Product Overview

Wirex One is a new Wirex app and card system built around an embedded self-custodial wallet rather than the provider-held balances used by the classic Wirex app. The card authorizes purchases against assets in that wallet, with conversion and settlement handled through Wirex One's regulated payment services and regional card partners.

Relationship to the Classic Wirex Card

This distinction is important. Wirex One is not merely a redesigned screen for the existing Wirex Card. It introduces a different wallet architecture, a new five-level membership system powered by WPAY, USD-valued rewards, new fiat and stablecoin funding routes, and different regional card contracts. The classic Wirex Card therefore remains a separate product with its own WXT-linked plans and legacy terms.

Card Formats

Wirex One provides a virtual card to the Base level, plastic cards from Premium, and metal Visa Signature cards from Private. All members can also create a virtual card. The card works as a debit card: there is no credit facility, and a payment can be declined when the available balance, compliance checks, card limits, merchant rules, or payment infrastructure do not permit it.

Account Balances

The app also provides USD, EUR, and GBP accounts. Depending on region, these can be funded through ACH, SEPA, Faster Payments, salary payments, an external Visa or Mastercard, or onchain stablecoin deposits. Wirex One documents USDC and USDT for USD-based deposits and EURC for euro deposits. It credits supported stablecoin deposits at 1:1 without a Wirex fee or spread, although external-card top-ups can carry a fee displayed before confirmation.

Card Options and Membership

Membership Levels

Wirex One has five actual membership levels. They are not country labels: each level changes the cashback rate, card format, monthly reward-redemption cap, trading allowance, earn-rate boost, and subscription rebates. Private and Bespoke also unlock a metal Visa Signature card.

Level Main global qualification Card option Cashback Monthly reward redemption
Base No portfolio or WPAY requirement Virtual 0.5% $25
Premium $500 portfolio and at least 1% WPAY Plastic and virtual 1% $100
Elite $2,500 portfolio and at least 3% WPAY, or $50,000 balance-only route Plastic and virtual 3% $300
Private $25,000 portfolio and at least 5% WPAY, or $100,000 balance-only route Metal, physical, and virtual 5% $1,000
Bespoke $50,000 portfolio and at least 10% WPAY, or $500,000 balance-only route Metal, physical, and virtual 8% $2,000

Portfolio and WPAY Qualification

The standard global WPAY path requires both conditions at the same time. A Premium member, for example, needs a portfolio worth at least $500 and WPAY equal to at least 1% of that portfolio. Portfolio value includes available fiat and crypto balances plus eligible Earn balances, calculated in US-dollar equivalent. Levels are recalculated daily and after relevant account activity. Upgrades apply immediately, while a member normally receives a 24-hour grace period before a downgrade.

Alternative Qualification Routes

The newer subscription-rebate guidance also documents a balance-only path for Elite and above. This is much more expensive than the WPAY route but avoids the token-allocation requirement. United Kingdom qualification uses a separate fiat and e-money-token model: at least £1,000 for Premium, £20,000 for Elite, £40,000 for Private, and £200,000 for Bespoke. Crypto, WPAY, and tokenized stocks do not count toward those UK thresholds.

Legacy Membership Benefits

Migrated classic-app customers can temporarily retain legacy X-Tras benefits without meeting the new portfolio and WPAY tests. Wirex maps older Standard Enhanced, Premium, and Elite plans into temporary Base, Premium, and Elite legacy levels with 1%, 3%, and 8% cashback respectively. These transitional rates differ from the normal Wirex One matrix and should not be used to estimate the return for a new account.

Physical Card Materials

Premium and Elite receive a plastic card, while Private and Bespoke can order the metal Visa Signature card. The metal card includes AirRefund eligibility for qualifying flights purchased with the card and up to 15% off eligible SIXT rentals. Wirex says it continues working if the account later drops to a lower level, but the cashback rate adjusts to the new level.

Cashback and Reward Redemption

Membership Reward Rates

Every eligible settled card purchase earns a percentage described by Wirex as cashback in USD. The standard rates are 0.5% for Base, 1% for Premium, 3% for Elite, 5% for Private, and 8% for Bespoke. The level held when the transaction occurs determines the rate.

Reward Points and Redemption Caps

The reward is not deposited immediately as unrestricted cash. Current help documentation says it is credited to a Reward Points balance after the transaction settles. Each level then limits how much can be redeemed in a calendar month: $25, $100, $300, $1,000, or $2,000 from Base through Bespoke. Amounts above the cap remain in the balance for later months or become redeemable after a level upgrade.

Reward Program History

This is a material qualification to the launch marketing. Wirex's May membership announcement described rewards as valued in USD and ready to spend instantly. The detailed June help documentation instead describes Reward Points, a separate claim step, and monthly redemption power. The points are therefore more stable in value than token-denominated rewards, but they should not be treated as unrestricted cash at the moment of purchase.

Reward Exclusions

ATM withdrawals, cash advances, crypto purchases, gambling, refunds, and several money-transfer, financial-service, government, tax, and cash-equivalent merchant categories do not qualify. Reward Points are credited only after settlement and can be reversed when a purchase is refunded or cancelled.

Subscription Rebates

Premium and above can also receive 50% rebates on selected subscriptions paid with a Wirex One card. Premium covers Uber One up to $5 or £4 per month. Elite adds ChatGPT Plus and raises the combined maximum to $15 or £12. Private adds Claude Pro and Perplexity Pro with a combined maximum of $40 or £32. Bespoke adds Whoop, Bloomberg Digital, and the Financial Times for a maximum of $87.50 or £70 per month. These rebates enter the same rewards balance and are subject to its redemption mechanics.

Effective Reward Value

The headline rate is most useful when considered alongside the qualification and redemption cap. A user should compare the cost and volatility of the required WPAY allocation, the total portfolio that must remain in Wirex One, the monthly amount they can actually redeem, and the operational reliability of the reward system—not only the advertised percentage.

Fees and Limits

Membership and Conversion Fees

Wirex One does not charge a membership subscription. Its current card fee article lists the foreign-transaction fee as free, and the membership matrix shows free foreign exchange across all five levels. That means there is no stated card FX markup, but it does not guarantee every asset conversion has no economic cost. Exchange rates can change before execution, external providers can apply costs, and Wirex does not publish one complete crypto-conversion schedule for every region and asset.

Funding Fees

Stablecoin deposits into the corresponding USD or EUR account are documented at 1:1 without a Wirex fee or spread. Wirex also says it does not charge for bank-transfer funding. External debit- or credit-card top-ups are different: a Wirex fee may apply based on the funding card and amount, and the app shows it before confirmation.

Card format Maximum single purchase Monthly purchase limit ATM daily limit ATM monthly limit
Virtual €30,000 €30,000 Not available Not available
Plastic €30,000 €30,000 €750 €5,000
Metal €30,000 €75,000 €750 €5,000

Regional and In-App Limits

The metal monthly purchase limit can be increased on request. Wirex also warns that limits vary by region, so the in-app figure controls for a specific account.

ATM Fees and Data Gaps

Wirex markets zero-fee ATM withdrawals on eligible plans, but it does not identify the exact eligible levels or separately address ATM-operator charges. A zero ATM fee should therefore not be assumed for every member. The published withdrawal limits remain useful, but anyone relying on cash access should check the live ATM quote and level rules first.

Physical Card Delivery

Physical-card delivery is free for Private and Bespoke. Premium and Elite can order plastic cards, but Wirex does not state one fixed delivery price for those levels. Standard local-post delivery can take up to four weeks; DHL Express is estimated at two to five business days. Metal-card DHL delivery is described as approximately two to three business days.

Supported Currencies and Funding

USD, EUR, and GBP Account Rails

Wirex One separates fiat-style account balances from the underlying self-custodial wallet, while connecting both in the same app. The documented account currencies are USD, EUR, and GBP:

  • EUR: SEPA transfers using an IBAN and BIC, salary payments, external-card top-ups, and EUR-based stablecoin deposits.
  • USD: ACH transfers using an account and routing number, salary payments, external-card top-ups, and USD-based stablecoin deposits.
  • GBP: Faster Payments using an account number and sort code, plus salary payments.

Stablecoin Deposits

The current investment help identifies USDC and USDT as USD-based stablecoins and EURC as the euro-based stablecoin. Supported onchain deposits are credited into the corresponding account at 1:1 without a Wirex fee or spread. Other supported crypto assets can be received into the self-custodial wallet or bought in the app, but Wirex does not publish one stable global list showing that every listed investment asset can be selected for direct card spending.

Card Funding Flow

There is no separate provider-custodied card wallet that must be preloaded. Card transactions use the available balance connected to the Wirex One wallet and payment account. A purchase can involve conversion before fiat settlement, so the asset selected and the account currency still matter even though the card page advertises free foreign transactions.

Currency Selection and Conversion

The practical low-friction route is to fund the account in the same unit as the purchase where possible—for example, EURC into the EUR account for euro spending. This can reduce the need for an additional asset conversion, although account availability and supported rails remain regional.

Availability and Issuers

Availability Rollout

Wirex One is in a phased rollout. Current operational material confirms migration activity for customers in the European Economic Area and Australia, while the upgrade guide also addresses the United Kingdom. Wirex's app-store listing and help center allow new account creation, but the company does not publish a dependable complete applicant-country list for the card. Availability should therefore be checked in the app rather than inferred from Visa acceptance or Wirex's broader claim of serving more than 130 countries.

Current Availability Status

Access remains limited because migration and signup are account- and region-dependent, not because the card is merely announced. Wirex's status page treats Wirex One as operational and directed affected EEA and Australian users to upgrade after classic-app crypto features ended on 30 June 2026. At the same time, recent users and Wirex representatives describe the launch as phased, and some accounts still lack the same features or migration path.

Regional Issuers and Networks

The issuer and network depend on residence:

Region Card service / issuer Network and regulatory scope
EEA Transact Payments Malta Limited Mastercard card service; Maltese electronic money institution regulated by the MFSA. UAB Wirex distributes and manages the card.
United Kingdom Wirex Limited provides the regulated service FCA-authorized electronic money institution; the current general terms do not separately identify the UK card issuer.
Australia Novatti Group Limited Regional card service under the Wirex Australia framework.
Other supported jurisdictions Wirex Limited under the rest-of-world terms Availability, network, and local protections depend on the account's jurisdiction.

Safeguarding and Deposit Protection

Wirex One is not a bank account covered by a universal deposit-guarantee scheme. Card, fiat-account, e-money safeguarding, complaint, and insolvency rights depend on the regional regulated provider. The self-custodial wallet is a separate software product and is not covered by the financial licenses that apply to the card or payment account.

Custody and Risk

Wallet Export and Key Control

Wirex One provides genuine user control over the digital assets used for spending. Its terms state that the card authorizes payments using assets held in the self-custodial wallet, and that neither Wirex nor Privy can unilaterally access, move, freeze, or reverse those assets. The wallet's private key can be exported for use through another compatible wallet, so closing the Wirex One profile or losing access to the card service does not automatically trap the onchain balance.

Wallet Infrastructure

Privy supplies the embedded key infrastructure. The private key is split into encrypted shares and reconstructed inside a protected execution environment only when the user authorizes an action. A passkey, backed by the device's security and often its cloud keychain, approves sensitive actions. Wirex also permits an authenticator app as a backup authentication method.

Custody Score

This earns a 4.5 out of 5 custody rating rather than 5.0. The user controls an exportable wallet and the provider cannot seize the underlying assets, but the normal app experience still depends on Privy's distributed-key and recovery infrastructure, smart-contract security, supported blockchain networks, and Wirex One's interface. Card spending additionally depends on Wirex, the regional issuer, compliance checks, and Visa or Mastercard authorization.

Wallet and Card Control Boundaries

Those dependencies have different consequences. Wirex or a card partner can reject verification, suspend the regulated profile, decline a card payment, withdraw account identifiers, or delay a transfer. According to the terms, those actions do not give Wirex control of the self-custodial wallet. A user with a securely exported private key should still be able to move the onchain assets through another compatible interface, although card, bank-transfer, rewards, and support functions would remain unavailable.

Wallet Recovery and Technical Risk

Self-custody does not remove technical risk. Smart-contract vulnerabilities, blockchain outages, key-recovery failures, compromised devices, phishing, unsupported network transfers, and mistakes made after exporting the key can still cause loss. Wirex cannot reverse an onchain transfer or restore access when the available authentication and recovery mechanisms are lost.

Migration and User Experience

Migration Incidents

The initial migration has been rough for a meaningful group of early users. Wirex's own status page confirmed balance-migration failures beginning on 28 June 2026 and deployed a hotfix the next day. It also reported a cashback display issue in July in which rewards appeared failed despite being paid and redeemable, plus a period of delayed customer-care responses during the transition to new onchain rails.

App Store Feedback

The Italian App Store showed a 2.4 out of 5 rating from 11 ratings when reviewed. The small sample is not enough to describe every customer's experience, but its card-specific comments align with the operational record: reviewers described an incomplete app, missing migrated balances, reduced rates, unclear portfolio presentation, and slow support. One reviewer gave a strongly positive assessment based on long-term Wirex use.

Cardholder Community Reports

Recent Reddit threads add more detail. Users reported incorrect balances after migration, delayed USDC deposits, failed USD-to-EUR conversions, rejected withdrawals, card declines, unexpected currency selection, and support tickets without timely human replies. Some later confirmed that balances or transactions were restored, and one user said the system improved after early bugs, praising EURC spending, self-custody, and USD cashback. These are attributable user reports rather than a prevalence estimate.

Custody and Operational Reliability

The same evidence explains why self-custody and operational reliability should be assessed separately. A display or migration failure can make the app appear as if assets are missing even when the underlying wallet remains user-controlled. That is still a serious usability and support problem, especially for a payment product, but it is different from Wirex holding the private key or legally owning the crypto balance.

First-Use Risk Controls

New users should begin with a modest deposit, export and secure the private key, verify the selected spending account and conversion quote, test one purchase, and confirm how Reward Points settle and redeem. A backup card remains sensible while the rollout matures, particularly for travel, cash needs, or time-sensitive purchases.

Best Suited For

  • Self-custody-focused spenders who want an exportable wallet connected to a conventional card.
  • EURC, USDC, or USDT users who can fund the matching account at 1:1 and avoid an unnecessary conversion.
  • Frequent spenders with a qualifying portfolio who can use the higher cashback and subscription rebates without overexposing themselves to WPAY.
  • Mobile-first travelers who value free card FX, Apple Pay or Google Pay, and can tolerate a phased rollout with a backup payment method.

Pros and Cons

Pros Cons
✅ Exportable self-custodial wallet that Wirex says it cannot freeze or move ❌ Card and account services can still be restricted even when the wallet remains accessible
✅ Standard cashback rates from 0.5% to 8%, valued in USD ❌ Rewards enter a points balance and monthly redemption caps limit immediate use
✅ No membership subscription and no published foreign-transaction fee ❌ Asset conversion, external-card top-up, and some delivery costs are not fully itemized publicly
✅ Virtual, plastic, and metal options with Apple Pay and Google Pay ❌ Higher card levels require substantial balances and WPAY exposure or expensive alternatives
✅ Free 1:1 deposits for documented USD- and EUR-based stablecoins ❌ Exact applicant-country coverage remains unclear during the phased rollout
✅ Strong subscription rebates and Visa Signature perks at higher levels ❌ Early users report migration bugs, incorrect balances, failed transactions, and slow support

Conclusion

Wirex One Card is one of the clearest attempts to combine an exportable self-custodial wallet with a full debit-card and multi-currency account experience. The strongest features are direct user control of the spending assets, free published card FX, useful physical and metal options, and cashback that reaches 5% or 8% for customers who can justify the higher qualification levels.

The reward headline needs careful reading. Standard cashback is credited as USD-valued Reward Points, not immediately unrestricted cash, and monthly redemption caps apply. Higher rates also require a sizeable Wirex One portfolio plus WPAY exposure or an even larger balance-only route. The rollout remains limited enough that country eligibility, local issuer terms, and exact fees should be confirmed in the app.

Wirex One is most compelling for experienced users who value self-custody and can test the payment path before relying on it. It is less suitable for anyone who needs proven support responsiveness, a completely transparent fee schedule, or a primary travel card that must work without a backup while the migration and app experience are still settling.
