Detailed Summary

Ka.app Card Review: Discontinued, Refunds & Former Fees

Quick Summary

Current Status

  • Kasta CCHS Ltd discontinued the ka.app platform and card services on February 17, 2026
  • New customers are not accepted and the platform is no longer accessible
  • Former customers with an outstanding balance can request reimbursement from Kasta

What the Card Offered

  • Physical Visa debit card linked to a custodial ka.app EUR balance
  • Manual crypto-to-EUR conversion before spending
  • Personal EUR IBAN and SEPA transfers during the final programme
  • Former EEA eligibility, excluding Italy after its 2025 closure

Main Limitations

  • The card cannot be ordered or used
  • No replacement programme has been announced
  • Former users depend on Kasta's identity-verification and reimbursement process for outstanding balances
  • Historical fee discounts required locking the volatile KASTA token for six months

Current Status and Reimbursement

The ka. Card is discontinued. Kasta announced on December 19, 2025 that it would close the ka.app platform and instructed customers to withdraw their crypto and fiat balances by February 17, 2026. The official site now says the company ceased operations on that date, accepts no new customers and no longer provides platform access.

Former customers who still have an outstanding balance can request reimbursement by emailing [email protected] or [email protected] from the email address previously registered to their account. Kasta asks customers to describe the account and balance, provide the refund destination and include information that can identify the account. Identity documents—and in some cases a photograph of the customer holding an ID—may be required before a refund is processed.

Kasta also warns that an unrelated website using the names “Kasta Broker” and “Kasta Brokers” is not connected to the company. Former customers should use only the contact details on the official ka.app cessation notice and should not send money or identity documents to imitating websites.

Current question Answer
Can I order the card? No
Can existing cards be used? No; platform and card operations ended
Is there a waitlist or replacement card? No replacement programme has been announced
Can former customers recover a balance? Kasta accepts reimbursement requests after identity and account verification
Do the former fees and countries still apply? No; they are retained below only as the last documented programme terms

Product History

Ka.app launched the physical, Visa-compatible Ka. Debit Card in 2024 for European Economic Area residents. Customers converted supported crypto into euros inside the custodial ka.app wallet, then spent the EUR balance through the card or withdrew cash at Visa-compatible ATMs.

The programme's final 18 months included two major infrastructure changes before the full closure:

Date Event
July 2024 Ka.app launched its physical Visa debit card for EEA residents
June 18, 2025 Sweden's Finansinspektionen withdrew Intergiro's e-money authorization because of serious anti-money-laundering control deficiencies
June 2025 Intergiro-backed card and payment services stopped; non-EEA onboarding also ended
July 29, 2025 Ka.app stopped new Italian accounts and began closing its Italian operation
July 31, 2025 Intergiro entered bankruptcy
October 2025 Ka.app restored EUR accounts and SEPA access through Fiat Republic; transfers were limited to accounts in the customer's own name
December 19, 2025 Kasta announced that the entire ka.app platform would be discontinued
February 17, 2026 Platform access and company operations ended

Fiat Republic restored EUR account infrastructure after Intergiro's failure, but the public record does not establish it as the issuer of a successor card. The final closure means neither company should be displayed as a current issuer.

Former Card Features

The former product combined a custodial crypto wallet, a personal EUR IBAN and one physical Visa debit card. It did not spend crypto directly at authorization. A customer first converted crypto to euros inside ka.app; purchases and ATM withdrawals then used the EUR balance.

The last documented card flow included:

  • a physical plastic Visa debit card;
  • a personal EUR IBAN and SEPA Instant support;
  • manual crypto-to-EUR conversion;
  • BTC, ETH, USDC, KASTA, MATIC/POL, BNB, ADA and DOT in the retained card record;
  • card freeze, PIN and CVC controls in the app;
  • ATM access through Visa-compatible machines; and
  • no purchase cashback.

Apple Pay and Google Pay support were never established in the retained official card material. That should be treated as unknown for the former card—not as proof that the wallets were unsupported.

Former Fees and Limits

These were the last documented programme terms before closure. They are not current prices and cannot be used to obtain or operate a card today.

Former fee Amount
Monthly fee €1.25
Annual fee €0
Card order No separate issuance fee; a €15 EUR balance was required
Incoming EUR funding €1
ATM withdrawal €1 per transaction
Crypto-to-EUR conversion Approximately 0.376%–2.5%, depending on the KASTA lockup tier
Card replacement Not confirmed
Non-EUR card FX Not confirmed; no percentage should be inferred from typical Visa pricing
Former limit Per transaction Daily Weekly Monthly
Card purchases €5,000 €8,000 €10,000 €20,000
ATM withdrawals €550 €550 €1,600 €4,600

The €15 ordering requirement was a minimum EUR balance, not a card-purchase fee. The separate conversion percentage applied when crypto was exchanged into EUR; it should not be relabeled as a card FX fee.

Former KASTA Tiers

Ka.app used one physical card design. Its “tiers” were KASTA token lockup levels that reduced crypto-conversion fees and, for some levels, paid staking yield. They were not separate card products and did not change the card's spending limits.

Former tier KASTA lockup Lock period Crypto-to-EUR fee Former staking yield
Tier 0 (Standard) None ~2.5% None
Tier I 40+ KASTA 180 days ~1.252% ~3% APY
Tier II 100+ KASTA 180 days ~1.023% ~4% APY
Tier III–V Increasing KASTA amounts; individual thresholds not retained 180 days ~1.023% ~5%–7% APY
Tier VI 20,000+ KASTA 180 days ~0.376% ~8% APY
Tier VII 50,001+ KASTA 180 days ~0.376% ~8% APY; a former promotion advertised up to 15%

These lockups no longer unlock card benefits. Their historical significance is the tradeoff users faced: lower conversion fees required exposure to KASTA price risk and a six-month lock. The former APY was a platform staking benefit, not card cashback.

Former Availability

Before the full shutdown, the final documented applicant scope covered 29 EEA countries:

Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain and Sweden.

Italy stopped accepting new accounts on July 29, 2025 and closed existing accounts in August 2025. The United Kingdom, United States and non-EEA countries were outside the final card programme.

This former eligibility is separate from the card's current Discontinued status. Closure does not mean the historical applicant-country record should be erased, and global Visa merchant acceptance never established where someone could apply.

Custody and Regulatory Risk

Ka.app was custodial. The company controlled the private keys for customer crypto accounts and used Fireblocks infrastructure to secure assets. Fireblocks MPC security did not make the wallet self-custodial and did not by itself establish cardholder insurance or deposit protection.

Customers controlled when to convert crypto, how much EUR to hold and whether to freeze the card. Kasta and its financial partners controlled account access, conversion execution, the EUR rails and card authorization. Kasta's terms allowed accounts and assets to be suspended or frozen for compliance and security reviews.

The 2025 Intergiro failure demonstrated payment-partner risk: the Swedish regulator withdrew Intergiro's authorization, payment services stopped and Intergiro later entered bankruptcy. The 2026 ka.app closure demonstrated the wider platform dependency: even after a new EUR partner was integrated, users ultimately lost normal platform access and remaining balances moved into a manual reimbursement process.

Kasta CCHS Ltd remained identified on the closure site as a Bulgarian virtual-currency service provider under registration BB-42. That registration did not make Kasta a bank or establish a current card issuer after operations ended.

User Feedback

Trustpilot shows a 4.2/5 score from 38 reviews, but no reviews were posted in the most recent 12 months. The sample therefore describes the former operating product and should not be read as evidence about the current reimbursement experience.

Positive reviewers described straightforward card ordering and activation, fast delivery, reliable shop payments, an easy-to-use app and useful EUR/crypto conversion. One verified reviewer said the debit card worked well and hoped cashback would be added.

Critical reviewers reported identity verification remaining under review, difficulty reaching support and a cumbersome second verification process for the EUR account. Those complaints matter more in hindsight because former customers with outstanding balances now depend on support and identity checks to complete reimbursement.

The feedback base is small and strongly positive overall, but it predates the platform shutdown. It supports the conclusion that the product worked well for some everyday users; it does not offset the decisive fact that the card and platform are now closed.

Top-Up Methods

  • Current card funding: Unavailable because ka.app and the card programme are closed
  • Former funding: Customers transferred EUR to their personal IBAN or manually converted supported crypto into EUR
  • Former spending: Purchases and ATM withdrawals used the custodial EUR balance; crypto was not converted at card authorization
  • Former incoming EUR fee: €1
  • Former supported crypto in the retained card record: BTC, ETH, USDC, KASTA, MATIC/POL, BNB, ADA and DOT

Self-Custody Custodial

  • Former crypto account: Custodial; Kasta controlled the private keys and used Fireblocks MPC infrastructure
  • Former EUR and card balance: Held and operated through Kasta and its payment partners
  • User controls: Customers chose when to convert crypto to EUR and could freeze the card in the app
  • Provider controls: Kasta controlled account access and conversion; financial partners controlled EUR rails and card authorization
  • Current status: Platform access ended; former customers with remaining balances depend on Kasta reimbursement and identity verification

Verdict

The ka. Card is not an option for new or existing card users. Its former combination of a physical Visa card, personal EUR IBAN, manual conversion and low KASTA-gated conversion fees was useful for some EEA customers, but all of those benefits ended with the platform.

Former customers should focus on balance recovery through the official Kasta addresses and keep copies of account records, transfer details and correspondence. Everyone else should choose an active crypto card with a named issuer, current legal terms, working onboarding and clearly documented custody and safeguarding.
