Quick Summary
ZEN Card is a custodial multi-currency debit card attached to a ZEN.COM account. New cards can be Mastercard or Visa, and the account supports 35 fiat currencies. Its strongest benefits are merchant-specific Instant Cashback, ZEN Care shopping protection, extended electronics warranty on paid plans, and the Pro-only Reward Zone.
Best for: Online shoppers and travellers who value purchase protection, partner cashback, and multi-currency spending more than a fixed cashback rate.
Main trade-off: Paid benefits cost up to €6.90/month in the current EUR schedule, cashback varies by merchant, and the account balance remains custodial rather than bank-deposit insured.

How ZEN Card works
ZEN Card is a debit card that spends fiat held in a ZEN.COM multi-currency account. It is not a crypto card that sends assets from a self-custody wallet at checkout. Users can receive a Mastercard or Visa depending on current availability, and ZEN does not let applicants choose the network manually.
| Feature | Current treatment |
|---|---|
| Card network | Mastercard or Visa, assigned by ZEN |
| Payment type | Debit card |
| Formats | Instant virtual card; physical card available in-app |
| Account currencies | 35 fiat currencies |
| Mobile wallets | Apple Pay, Google Pay, Xiaomi Pay, Garmin Pay |
| Identity checks | Full KYC and source-of-funds information |
| Card balance | Shared ZEN account balance; cards have no separate balance |
If a purchase currency is available, ZEN takes funds from that balance. Otherwise, cascading conversion can draw sequentially from other balances. A card with an EUR, PLN, or GBP settlement currency has the corresponding published limit schedule.
Plans and card options
ZEN's current personal plans are Free, Gold, Platinum, and Pro. The account plan sets pricing and benefits, while the user can have a Standard ZEN Card or, on Pro, a ZEN PRO Card with the full Reward Zone.
| Feature | Free | Gold | Platinum | Pro |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Monthly plan | €0 | €0.90 | €6.90 | €6.90 |
| Virtual cards included | 1 | 1 | 3 | 3 |
| Physical cards included | 0 | 1 | 2 | 2 |
| Instant Cashback | 50% of current offer | Full offer | Full offer | Full offer |
| ZEN Care | 1 claim/year; 10% recovery charge | Included | Included | Included with priority on ZEN PRO Card |
| Extended warranty | None | +1 year, up to €1,500 | +1 year, up to €5,000 | Up to +2 years, up to €5,000 on ZEN PRO Card |
| Reward Zone earning | No active earning route confirmed | No active earning route confirmed | No active earning route confirmed | Up to 100 total Shards on Standard card; unlimited on ZEN PRO Card |
| Free ATM allowance | €0 | €200/month | €800/month | €800/month |
The plan and card are related but not interchangeable. A Pro subscription with a Standard ZEN Card does not provide the same Shard allowance or warranty period as a ZEN PRO Card.
Instant Cashback and Reward Zone
ZEN has two distinct reward systems.
Instant Cashback
Instant Cashback applies at selected partner merchants and does not provide one fixed percentage on all card spending. Offers vary by plan, user activity, selected offer country, and merchant. Free users receive half of the current advertised offer; Gold, Platinum, and Pro users receive the full offer.
To qualify, the user generally must open the merchant through ZEN's in-app link, begin with an empty cart, stay in the same shopping session, and pay directly with the ZEN Card. PayPal, Curve, PayByZEN, instalment services, or an expired tracking link can invalidate the reward. Cashback usually arrives within 30 minutes, with a €250 daily cap from one programme partner.
This is why ZEN should not be compared as a fixed “10% cashback card.” The relevant rate is the live offer for the user's merchant and country.
Reward Zone
Reward Zone uses Shards and Stones rather than ordinary cashback. Active Pro access is required to earn Shards. A Standard ZEN Card on Pro can earn up to 100 Shards in total; the cap does not renew. A ZEN PRO Card earns one Shard per €3.30 of eligible spend without that cap and can also earn bonuses through selected payments, Quests, and in-app activity.
Payments through intermediaries, gambling, loan repayments, quasi-cash transactions, and ATM withdrawals do not earn Shards. Refunds reverse previously earned Shards. ZEN Travel Cards do not earn Shards.
Fees and limits
The following values come from ZEN's individual pricing schedule effective 26 May 2026. Pricing can differ by regional ZEN entity.
| Fee | Free | Gold | Platinum | Pro |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Account plan | €0 | €0.90/month | €6.90/month | €6.90/month |
| Additional physical card | €10 | €10 after first | €10 after two | €10 after two |
| Additional virtual card | €5 after first | €5 after first | €5 after three | €5 after three |
| Currency exchange markup | 0.50% | 0.20% | 0% | 0% |
| Outside-market-hours addition | 0.40% | 0.40% | 0.40% | 0% |
| ATM withdrawal | 1.5% | 1.5% above €200/month | 1.5% above €800/month | 1.5% above €800/month |
| Payment-card top-up | 0.5%–4.5% | currently 0%–4.25% | 0%–4% | 0%–4% |
| Digital-currency top-up | 0.5% | 0.5% | 0.5% | 0.5% |
| Digital-currency transfer | 2% | 2% | 0.5% | 0.5% |
Ordinary card purchases are free, but an exchange rate applies when conversion is needed. ZEN Rate is based on the interbank midpoint and includes ZEN's own costs and risk premium; “0% markup” does not mean that every conversion equals a raw central-bank rate.
For EUR settlement cards, the daily purchase limit defaults to €10,000 and can be raised to €30,000. ATM withdrawals default to €2,000/day and can be raised to €30,000/day. PLN and GBP cards use separate equivalent schedules. Accounts opened with Ukrainian documents have stricter fixed account limits.
Shopping protection and warranty
ZEN Care helps with damaged, missing, incorrect, duplicated, or disputed purchases. Free includes one claim per year and charges 10% of the transaction amount only when ZEN recovers it. Paid plans allow claims without that recovery fee; ZEN PRO Card cases receive priority handling.
Gold and Platinum add one year of extended electronics warranty, up to €1,500 and €5,000 respectively. A Standard card on Pro still provides one additional year, while qualifying purchases registered with a ZEN PRO Card receive up to two additional years and €5,000 coverage. Users need to register purchases in the app and follow the warranty terms.
Currencies and crypto services
The ZEN account can hold, send, and receive 35 fiat currencies. Purchases in another currency can still be processed through the assigned Mastercard or Visa conversion route.
UAB ZEN.COM customers can buy and send 13 supported crypto assets: BTC, ETH, LTC, BCH, XRP, TRX, SOL, ADA, DOGE, USDT, USDC, DAI, and AVAX. The crypto is exchanged at the time of the service; the ZEN account itself holds fiat, not an onchain crypto balance. These crypto services are not available to customers of ZEN-UK Limited or ZEN.COM PTE. LTD.
Supported Countries and Restrictions
ZEN's July 2026 registration page lists supported countries and accepted identity documents. This includes many EEA markets plus selected countries in Asia-Pacific, North America, and elsewhere. It is a positive onboarding list, not a claim that everyone worldwide can apply. Applicants using Ukrainian documents must live outside Ukraine.
ZEN separately blocks card payments in Afghanistan, Belarus, Burkina Faso, Burma/Myanmar, Central African Republic, Cuba, Ethiopia, Iran, Iraq, Lebanon, Libya, Mali, Nicaragua, North Korea, Russia, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, Syria, Venezuela, Yemen, and named occupied Ukrainian regions. Merchant-use restrictions do not define application eligibility.
Custody and regulation
ZEN account funds are custodial. Regional ZEN entities hold and operate the fiat ledger, and card or compliance restrictions can limit access. EU e-money safeguarding separates customer funds from company operating funds, but it is not the same as a €100,000 bank deposit guarantee.
UAB ZEN.COM is supervised as an EMI by the Bank of Lithuania. ZEN-UK Limited is authorised by the FCA, and ZEN.COM PTE. LTD. is licensed by the Monetary Authority of Singapore. The applicable entity, network, account services, and fees depend on the customer's region.
User feedback
Public feedback is generally positive in aggregate but includes recurring operational complaints.
Google Play shows roughly 4.3/5 from more than 48,000 reviews. Users often praise the app, multi-currency account, and cashback. Recent negative reports mention paid-plan renewal after a free trial, unexpected account closure or limitations, and occasional app regressions.
Trustpilot shows roughly 4.6/5 from around 7,000 reviews, with recent praise for onboarding, top-ups, cashback, and support resolution. ZEN invites some Trustpilot reviews, so the score is useful context rather than a neutral failure-rate estimate.
Account-limit complaints remain material because the card spends a custodial balance. ZEN says a document review usually takes around three days and can end in reopening or account closure with a route to withdraw remaining funds. Keep records, understand the trial renewal date, and avoid relying on one card for every payment.
Best suited for
ZEN is strongest for someone who shops through partner links, wants ZEN Care and warranty protection, or regularly spends across currencies. Gold is the inexpensive upgrade for warranty and €200 of fee-free monthly ATM withdrawals; Platinum prioritises exchange and ATM economics; Pro is the only sensible choice for active Reward Zone earning.
It is weaker for users who want fixed cashback on every purchase, self-custody, bank deposit insurance, or a card whose network and top-up fee are known before entering the app.
Top-Up Methods
- Fund the ZEN account by bank transfer or supported regional top-up methods
- Payment-card top-up fees vary by source card, issuing country, currency, and plan; the app shows the quote
- UAB ZEN.COM customers can convert supported crypto through external providers for a 0.5% digital-currency top-up fee
- The account holds fiat balances; all ZEN Cards spend the shared account balance
Self-Custody Custodial
- ZEN Cards spend fiat held on a custodial ZEN account ledger
- Cards share the account balance rather than holding separate balances
- Regional ZEN entities and card-programme controls can limit account or card access
- EU safeguarding is not the same as bank deposit insurance
- Crypto services use external providers; the ZEN account itself does not hold onchain crypto balances
Pros and cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Free virtual debit card | Cashback is merchant-specific, not a fixed card rate |
| 35 fiat currencies | Paid plans cost up to €6.90/month in the current EUR schedule |
| ZEN Care shopping protection | Payment-card top-up fees can be high and vary by source |
| Useful extended warranty on paid plans | Custodial EMI balance without bank deposit insurance |
| Four major mobile wallets | Card network is assigned rather than chosen |
| Pro Reward Zone and Travel Cards | Account checks can temporarily limit access |
Verdict
ZEN Card is best understood as a shopping and multi-currency debit account, not as a fixed 10% crypto cashback card. Its purchase protection, extended warranty, current partner offers, and Pro Reward Zone can be valuable, while the Free and Gold plans keep the entry cost low.
The decision comes down to usage. Check the live cashback partners and top-up quote, choose a plan whose ATM and warranty benefits exceed its monthly cost, and treat the ZEN balance as custodial spending money rather than an insured savings account.
